Zeroing in on lower energy consumption, high performance presenting tech with new Philips digital signage fleet

Background

The Institut Pasteur is an internationally acclaimed biomedical research foundation, located in Paris France. Founded by Louis Pasteur in 1887, its four core missions are research, education, public health and scientific innovation. The Institut’s five-hectare campus houses 39 buildings – several of which are listed as historical monuments – a conference centre, and a total of 48,000m2 of laboratory space.

Challenge

Balancing retaining the aesthetics of its historical campus while providing future proof tech for its many teams, as well as respecting its environmental commitments brings a unique challenge for the Insititut Pasteur.

With a desire to modernise its display infrastructure, the team needed a new fleet of 24/7 dynamic display solutions throughout its site that complied with its strict standards for electrical safety and durability, while bringing energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprint.

Performance, readability, and energy efficiency were all key, with the displays disseminating scientific, institutional, and logistical information – some situated in bright environments, such as halls and laboratories.

Solution

Electing to work with AV/IT integration specialists, Exaprobe, a range of Philips digital signage displays was earmarked to meet all the requirements for this challenge. The team at PPDS proposed a combination of the 32” zero power Philips Tableaux ePaper displays to show static information such as maps and instructions, while sustainability focused, EPEAT Climate+ Gold certified Philips Signage 3000 EcoDesign displays were chosen to deliver dynamic content, including presentations, corporate videos, and internal communications, using a fraction of the power of similar digital signage displays.

Enabling centralised management of the new fleet, Telelogos' Media4Display solution was integrated. This also allows the Pasteur technical team to update content in real time without having to travel or manually maintain.

The full integration – including in reception halls, passageways, and meeting rooms – proceeded successfully and without disrupting research activities. Connectivity and content management tests were carried out on site, ensuring a seamless transition.

The Institut Pasteur now benefits from a modern, sustainable display system that is fully adapted to its scientific environment. Information is disseminated more effectively, content is updated instantly and energy consumption has been significantly reduced.
